Poem analysis

The Son is in Secondary School by Affian Sa’at

The poet expressed his thought of the schooldays in an incredibly detailed way. This actually proves that the poet really enjoyed his schooldays and really remember every detail.
In the first stanza of his poem, the poet mentioned about his school motto. He vividly remember that it was in Latin. The poet really missed his schooldays.
The next few stanzas are that the poet is describing some of the things he thought that was interesting, things that he really missed . Those really realistic scenes of singing the national anthem when black crows interrupted, that it was hard to remain the whiteness of the shoe.

Above was what I thought at first until I reached the last few stanzas. I discovered that the poet's son is paralysed and had to move around in a wheelchair. The poet follows him to school everyday.
I do not know whether my understanding is correct. However, no matter what is the really meaning of this poem , it still gives us a touching description of the days he spent in school.

  1. To be honest, that was what i felt when i read the first part of the poem but came to realise the fact that the son was paralysed. It is also true that the author misses his schooldays, good evidences stated such as the scenes of singing the national anthem when black crows interrupted, hard to remain the whiteness of the shoe, the poet mentioning about his school motto. He vividly remember that it was in Latin, enjoyed his schooldays and really remember every detail.

I personally feel that this answer had nothing wrong about it. It is a good review!

  2. A pretty good analysis, but perhaps you can rearrange your words properly to aid the reader in reading the whole chunk of words you have just posted. Honestly, what you have just posted is quite true and you should not doubt your own ability to interpret things. Everyone have their own interpretations and you should not be afraid to show everyone your own interpretation. Just a word of advice from me, your friend Jack, to you Lam Zihan. Thank you.
